Apparently life likes throwing double curve balls. The re-opening of Liesl Made will be pushed back one week due to a death in the family. I’m still not sure what’s going on, but I might be leaving on Wednesday and be gone for the latter part of the week.
Then on Sunday, my Dad still wants to participate in Art Across the River. He’s done a ton of work on birdhouse gourds, toaster tongs, lazy Susans, and even a wall clock/weather station thing. (I’ll share photos when I can.) I’ll have some of my things there too.
As long as all goes well, Lieslmade.com will be up and running on Monday, September 29th.
I’ve taken pictures of the stuff I’ve made so far and have them up on my Flickr account.

Autumn : Re-Opening

Autumn is around the corner. I can feel the seasons starting to change. I’m always more restless in the summer and I’m noticing myself calming down more, finding it easier to concentrate on my sewing and my art. Fall is easily my favorite season. My brother is dreading fall, he says the air feels premonitory, that something bad is about to happen–then as feared, winter hits. I suppose it only make sense that I his doppelganger in many respects, would see it all the exact opposite.
I see fall as a shedding of skin, a wiping away of dust and past mistakes, making way for the delicate cleansing of snow in winter. Then the reawakening of spring, followed by the exciting whirl of summer. (Perhaps therein lies my problem. With my personality, I must find summer to be too overwhelming–too much, too soon. Though any of the seasons can be overwhelming as well, when they last too long.)
With that said, I have decided to reopen my shop on September 22nd, 2008–the first day of Autumn.
I think I’ve stepped back into the rhythm of things. As I said before, I’m more focused. I’ve got a handful of bags done already, including a new design that I love. I’m working away on a vintage/re-purposed lap quilt and have dresses and clothing started and in mind. Quite a few months ago I made the decision to switch over to all natural fibers. I’ve never much like synthetic fabrics but would cave when I saw a design I liked, especially when it was priced right. This is going to be one of the missions of the “New” Liesl Made–using only all natural, organic or re-purposed fabrics. (It wont be hard because I’m absolutely in love with linen.) I’ve been using up some of the synthetics in my stash, but if I can’t think up something to make then I’m selling or giving. (So stay tuned, for there may be some giveaways in the near future.)
In the meantime, you can check here or my Flickr stream for sneak peaks at some of the tidbits to be unveiled on the Autumnal Equinox.
