New Pants

I finally finished hemming and can wear these burgundy wide-leg, high-waisted pants. The pattern was originally my Mom’s from the seventies, it has her signature doodles on the envelope. The fabric is a secondhand polyester, the same used to make the Camille Skirt.

Still

It was one of those Still Mornings. You wake up slowly, pull back the curtains, stretch. Then you rub your eyes, your ears, just to be sure your senses are still functioning. No, everything around you is simply still. So you follow suit. Breathe in. Breathe out. Drink your tea while the mist slowly disperses and the sun emerges. Now it’s time to get to work.
The ethereal mist should have been a precursor that it wouldn’t be a traditional December day. It made it up to about 59 degrees here. I spent the day with the windows open, sounds of birds harmonizing with my music and the smell of wet soil in the air. Spring didn’t sneak in last night, did it?

I cut and hemmed these thrift-store-find pants into winter shorts a few days ago. It’s a clever option for us tall folks when pants aren’t nearly long enough. Although, I’ve earned nicknames such as Peter and Little Lord Fauntleroy.
I’ve been sewing quite a bit. So much that I’m fresh out of white thread and Liesl Made labels. Shop updates begin the first of January.
