Making Do.

Turning.
Good evening,
We are still without power. It’s frustrating but I keep reminding myself of all the trouble other folks are going through in the aftermath of Irene. Besides we have a generator and can flush our toilets and use our stove.
However my Mom has been cooking on the grill as much as she can. She put a layer of heavy duty foil down to protect her pans from getting black. So far she’s made pasta with homemade tomato sauce, quinoa and veggies, meats (both real and fake), and even baked some blueberry muffins! (They didn’t brown but cooked thoroughly and taste so delicious!) She says she feels like a girl scout.
Turning.
We’re trying to make the best of it. The generator (and our wallets) get a break from midnight when my brother gets home from work to four when my Dad gets up for work. We are sleeping so it’s not a big deal. It gets a second break in the afternoon before dinner. I don’t mind it so much, being without power. The one thing I miss most is running water those few hours. It’s amazing how dependent we are on such modern things–and how we take them for granted!

Fall is coming. I’m so excited! It’s my favorite season, by far. Fingers crossed it’s a great one.

It is amazing how much we take our basic luxuries for granted! We live in an area with frequent power outages in the winter and I’m with you … water is the biggie! Hope you get the power back soon. Until then, enjoy the hummmmmm

Oh Liesl! I’m glad you’re making the best of it. Hopefully life will be back to normal soon.

And fall is my favorite season, too.
