Can I admit something to you all? I may be alone on this but, well, I’m not a big fan of summer. I’m excited for everyone else who is excited about this season, but well, me personally, I’m just not. I guess it boils down to the heat. I don’t fare well in hot temperatures. I’m known for passing out. The bright sun causes my skin to go from white to red. And I get sweaty and cranky.
However, instead of focusing on the negatives, I’ve decided to think of all the things I do like about summer.
Tomatoes.
(But really, all the fresh fruits and veggies.)
Longer days.
Fireflies at night.
Not having to wrestle with tights in the morning.
Do you like summer? If so, what do you like about it? I could use extra positivity to help me learn to appreciate this season more!
There is a new challenge/adventure in my life. On Monday I’ll share more details!
PS: I want to clarify, I did NOT make this dress. I got it on eBay—the price and length were just right. I kind of don’t like wearing it because I always seem to disappoint people when they assume I made it and I have to correct them. It sure looks like something I’d make!
And thank you all for the feedback so far!

you look so pretty in your yellow dress. as for summer, i’m not really a fan. i love the feeling of freedom summer brings. people definitely seem more carefree. have a cold beer and a sparkler, why not? but the heat gets me. summer in kentucky is a sweaty mess. i much prefer fall.
i’m excited to hear about your adventure.
I’m with you! I like all the fun of summer, but the heat is such a buzzkill! it’s only June and I’m already all….”dewey” LOL
But there are all the beautiful farmer’s markets, and the beachtime ( preferably in the evening when it’s cooler, haha!) and family visiting and all the flowers all over the place. I love flowers. And more abundant wildlife to spy on. Even if it’s just more squirrels. And free concerts put on by the town. And traveling. All that extra daylight after bedtime to enjoy outside. Camping! Almost forgot camping.
And not wrestling with stockings is pretty awesome ;)
it’s a really beautiful dress.
i like sunny breezy summer days. 90+ weather, not so much. i’m kind of meh about summer, personally.
though i do love an ice cold lemonade.
How nice to find people who are not fans of summer. I have diagnosed myself with Reverse Seasonal Affective Disorder. I live in Nova Scotia which by no stretch of the imagination can be considered ‘hot’ but I suffer from May to the end of September – hot, perspiring freely even in air-conditioned shops, aches, pains, short-tempered etc and by the time the end of August rolls around I am in a clinical depression. Doctor just shrugs. Meanwhile I don’t go to the beach, don’t participate in any summer activities, or spend time on Halifax’s lovely waterfront – look at it on a webcam (http://www.novascotiawebcams.com/halifax/chebucto-head.html) and am thoroughly miserable. It gets worse as I get older (I’m 65 now). Thank god for ceiling fans, window fans, antidepressants and being able to lie starkers on my bed as I live alone and my cats don’t mind. Mutter grumble complain.
my husband and i are convinced we have the same thing! we hate the summer, the long days, and the endless sunshine. bring on the clouds and cool air. by the end of summer im so miserable i dont know how i could last another day.
You caught me! Yesterday I started my own blog and yours somehow just popped out before everything else. I took some time to browse it and was surprised – not sure enough from what exactly – it’s hard to describe it… Anyway, may I say ‘Hello’ to you, first, and then, I said ‘You caught me!’ because today I realised that I like June very much. And this year the seasons are a little bit different than previous years, so far. They are better – the spring was (excuse me, I still continue to think as ‘it is’) veeery long. Incredible. Now we have summer coming…I live at the sea and this can only mean one thing – vacation. You can feel it even if you go to work like every other day. And the days are so long! I like the summer because I can spend much more time outside off my shanty.
I don’t support alcohol, but a cocktail called ‘crème de menthe with ice cream’ is not far from a hot-summer classic with a faithful friend, trust me. ;-)
I’m no fan of summer either! the heat and the tornado warnings are no good for my heart! But, I do like being able to get out of the house more often and it’s much easier to get the kids out too, there’s not fighting & trying to get snow gear on, that part is great!
I like summer but not so much because I’m a fan of it; rather, I’m simply glad it’s not winter.
I only like summer when we’re at our lake, otherwise, I hate it. I work in air conditioning but when I come out, I just about melt. My energy level gets zapped and I’m cranky. Nope, I’m a fall kind of gal too!
I have a long standing love affair with summer. Number one reason why: I work all the other seasons…summer is the time when I can just be and do what I love. Also: flip flops, ice tea, fresh tomatoes, black eyed peas, and okra, swimming in the lake, more time for crafting, a tan on my skin (I get really dark without much effort), late nights without earlier than sin mornings, popsicles, since I have a tan I’ll wear a skirt (occasionally), summer soundtracks, simple food, margaritas, wine on the back porch, and on and on and on. I could write a book.
I have a love hate relationship with summer! My birthday is in August so naturally I should be drawn to it right? Well, I used to be but now it seems as if it’s gotten waaay to hot as the years roll by. I don’t remember summers being this hot growing up. On the flip side, I love all of the bright colors that come with summer! Bright colors flood the pages of magazines and in my favorite stores. So at the end of the day I guess it’s not sooo bad. There’s barb-b-ques, homemade lemonade, sweet tea, family reunions, & summer vacations. Plus we’re still alive, so what’s not to love about that? : )

I’m with you. I really do not get on with summer at all!! Too hot. Grouchy children. Too many bugs of the not cute variety.
Now autumn….there’s a season to love. Crispy days. Golden sunlight. Fire bright leaves. Curling up on the sofa with hot drinks and knitting or sewing. Far more fun.
