There are so many other things I should be doing, but instead I played around with a square zippered bag tutorial I came across recently. I found it via applecyder and fell in love. Like I said in my comment to Molly, I attempted to figure out how to make square bags like this myself but didn’t have much luck. This one explained it all nicely. However, like Molly, I added some length and I even added width. My pieces were cut at 12″ x 9″ instead of 10″ x 7″. I also used a 14″ zipper.

The one bit that confused me was at the very beginning. Maybe I missed it, but I wasn’t sure how far in to mark the fabric so I just did a 1/2″. For the next ones I’ll do a full inch, me thinks. It was difficult to maneuver. And I think I’ll cut the corners in further to make the bag taller and narrower.

I think, if you use a masculine fabric, these would make great toiletry travel bags (is that what they are called?) for men, especially if you use the measurements I did for the first one. I’m thinking I might use PUL fabric for the inside–so it cleans easily if they are used for make-up or travel toiletry bags. I’ve never used PUL fabric before but just ordered some for another project.
Anyway, I really shouldn’t be talking about this here because I am planning on gifting them this year to some gals (who may very well read my blog.)

Very cool. I love the fabric you used for this one :)
I love square bags like this. I will check out the tutorial.
Your sewing is so precise. My OCD approves.
Super cute! :)
Thank you for sharing the link to my tutorial :) your pouch is so cute.
Very neat bags. I am, in fact, a bag lady. I have many — so I can appreciate a neat one.
