One night, we were laughing at our silly dog, Kippy, who was laying with her bum on her bed and head on the hardwood floor. We thought it looked awfully uncomfortable but she seemed content. My Mom commented that her bed could use a good washing. I thought to myself, she could use a new bed. The one I made her years ago had seen better days.
My inspiration came from a vague memory of SouleMama (or another clever, crafty blogger) making a similar bed for their dog. I have a love of log cabin piecing and ever since getting Patchwork Style, have wanted to give the machine quilting technique featured in there a whirl. (Penny reminded me of it with her Quilt Along.)
I’m in love. Truly. This devoted hand quilter may be a machine quilting convert if it’s this easy. See, I’m not a fan of machine quilting mainly because quilts are so big and bulky to maneuver under the presser foot and all and every time I’ve tried, it ends up looking messy. But this gives me a lot more control because you quilt block by block.
My family, and perhaps you too, will think I’m crazy making something so pretty for the dog, but I just couldn’t help myself. If you’re going to make something, you might as well make it beautiful. Besides, I had all these left over home décor weight scraps from aprons and what-nots that I really didn’t know what to do with.
The bottom is a secondhand denim I’ve had for ages and the sides are a green ticking. There is a zipper closure on one side.

i am impressed that you are a hand quilter! i have only done quilting by machine, i love the log cabin style – i have only tried patchwork but off to google i go! i have been thinking of doing some sort of patchwork with the fabric you sent to put along the bottoms of curtains… still dreaming of what i will do : )

that is a totally cool dog bed, totally beats the one I made. I love penny’s quilt a long although I haven’t started a block yet – seems like a fun time quilting as you go!
