I really wish I knitted better because there are a couple awesome patterns out there with my name.
Yes, Liesl. (Or Liesel*)
All my life, I always stopped to look at those racks of personalized mugs or key chains, hoping, maybe there was that off chance they’d have mine. But alas, the only place it didn’t go from Leslie to Lisa was at a little gift shop in Southern Germany. And even then, the little hook with “Liesl” just stood there, sadly vacant. Someone had beaten me to them. I always cherished gifts given to me with my name engraved or embroidered on—especially a little denim purse with orange letters spelling my name.
And now, my crafty self finds these patterns and I don’t even knit. Hmmph! Is there a pattern or something special out there with your name that you love? Characters in a book or movie? Where or how did your parents get your name? (Mine is from The Sound of Music.)
And while I’m on this topic: I also found a crochet pattern for Spectator Gloves. And I’m in love. (Actually, I’m in love with everything from the Adventures of Jessica Rose shop. It all looks so classy and soft and gorgeous.) I want a pair. But I can’t afford them pre-made and I’m not sure I could understand the pattern if I bought it.
*There are no photos on this site that I could find but a simple Google Search will provide some.

I love looking at knitting patterns…ravelry is so dangerous!
Those mitts are so pretty. I’m named for Mother Teresa and as a child I often had a difficult time finding anything with my name spelled correctly – there’s almost always an h in Teresa…
wow! those gloves are awesome! thanks for the link to the shop, I love everything in it too!
I sometimes really wish I could knit too
Gorgeous Mitts! I started knitting 3 years ago and have purchased a few patterns that are really intimidating. I will get to them one day…hopefully soon!
I too rarely find my name on pre-printed things, much less spelled the same. I used to think this was sad, but I’d much rather have a unique name than the same one as everyone else. My grandmother’s name was Liesl. Also, I love those gloves. :)
Liesl, that is so sad. What a way to taunt a sweet girl – denying her personalized toothbrushes and what-not! I fell into a similar trap – they always had Jenna (although my coworker Jenna would argue against that), but it was always Jennie. Which is not how my name is spelt, and my real name is Jenny-Rae, anyway. No chance of finding that on a rack!
these gloves are so beautiful!
i always hated watching movies/tv shows with characters who shared my name because it seemed allisons were always portrayed as bimbos. the upside of my name is that children sometimes mistake it for “allison” wonderland. that’s a fun association.
I’ve yet to find a pattern with my name on it, and, just like Affectioknit Teresa, as a child I could only find “Theresa” and not “Teresa”. My dad lived in Colombia for a few years before he married my mom and fell in love with the name. I’ve always thought it was kind of weird and doesn’t really fit me. Oh well. I’m reading the Time Traveler’s Wife per your recommendation right now and totally loving it.
